Why High-Ticket Dropshippers Fail at Freight
The shift from AliExpress dropping to US-based high-ticket dropshipping is lucrative, but it introduces complex B2B shipping logistics. When you are shipping a 300lb sauna or a large pizza oven, you cannot use UPS Ground. You must use LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight.
If a supplier promises "flat rate $150 shipping," that usually only covers commercial dock-to-dock delivery. It completely ignores what happens when an 18-wheeler shows up to a suburban neighborhood.
Residential Delivery Fees & Liftgate Surcharges
Freight carriers charge heavy premiums for residential drop-offs.
- Residential Fee ($50-$150): Re-routing a massive truck through tight residential streets is a liability. Carriers charge exclusively for this.
- Liftgate Surcharge ($50-$100): Unless your customer has a forklift in their driveway, the truck requires a mechanical liftgate to lower the pallet to the ground.
- Limited Access Fee ($50+): If the customer lives in a gated community, down a dirt road, or in a dense urban area like Manhattan, expect another surcharge.
Protect Your Margins
The #1 mistake beginners make is blindly subtracting wholesale cost from the MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) and assuming the remainder is pure profit. Use this calculator to bake in a "freight buffer" into your profitability models before turning on Google Ads.
